Nineteenth Annual Brooklyn Children’s Book Fair

Virtual Verbal Description Tour: Art and the City
Experience New York City through art in this virtual verbal description tour, designed for blind individuals and those with low vision. Explore highlights from Breaking the Mold: Brooklyn Museum at 200, featuring familiar city scenes and new discoveries from the collection.
Music Performance: Falsa
Experience a free Saturday afternoon performance by Falsa, an NYC-based Sufi musical ensemble. Rooted in Qawwali and the South Asian diasporic experience, Falsa reimagines 14th-century devotional traditions through transcultural jazz, improvisation, and world music. Featuring Sufi vocals, Carnatic violin, Hindustani tabla, Bass VI, harmonium, and drums, Falsa’s sound explores longing, presence, and joy.
Museum on Wheels: Brownsville
Head to Brownsville for a block party filled with engaging art activities hosted by our new Museum on Wheels! This mobile museum can pull up anywhere in Brooklyn with touchable selections from our collection of teaching objects—plus plenty of fun. All ages are welcome to express your creativity and enjoy art-making, games, and giveaways from Yadestiny Treasure Chest, Island Pops, and Brooklyn Tea.

Back-to-School Night: The Art in Sports
Explore the intersection of art and sports at this back-to-school night for teens, young adults, and their families. Join our BkM Teens and School Programs staff to consider how art and sports interact to build community and shape narratives. Enjoy a panel discussion with arts and sports professionals, art-making activities, giveaways, and more!

Summer Jazz: Ghanniyya Green
Stop by the Museum’s lobby for a jazz set by vocalist Ghanniyya Green and her band! Known as a singer’s singer and a listener’s delight, Green has performed in jazz clubs throughout the city and across radio, television, film, and theater. Experience what the American Review of Jazz and Blues calls “a Diva’s sense of high drama.” Free event!
Outdoor Art-Making with BkM Teens 8/6
Drop by our outdoor plaza this summer to join our teen Museum Apprentices in an art-making activity! Each project will be inspired by works in the collection. Bring the whole family to for some creative fun!

First Saturday: En Fuego
Ignite your night with music, film, poetry, and comedy at this on-fire First Saturday. Celebrate the brilliance of artists from the Caribbean diaspora as we count down to the West Indian Day Parade on September 1.
This program is free; registration is required and includes Museum general admission. Tickets will be released on a rolling basis starting July 18 for Members and July 21 for the public. Sign up for the Brooklyn Museum newsletter to be notified of the next release. The lineup is subject to change; revisit this page for the latest details.
The second- and fifth-floor galleries will close at 6 pm. The last entry to the Museum is at 9 pm.

Workshop: Art-Making in the Adult Literacy Classroom
How can creating art help adult literacy students reach their reading and writing goals? In this workshop, explore ways that students can use art-making to tell complex stories about history and themselves. Discuss a work in the American Art galleries and learn an art-making technique that you can bring back to the classroom.

Juneteenth Jubilee

First Saturday: Star-Makers
Join us for a lineup of trailblazing queer artists who shine across mediums, from film and music to drag and visual art! Inspired by Oscar yi Hou’s The Arm Wrestle of Chip & Spike; aka: Star-Makers, June’s First Saturday celebrates luminaries who forge constellations of connection among queer Brooklynites. Enjoy music, art-making, performances, and so much more. This program is free; registration is required and includes Museum general admission.
LGBTQ+ Teen Night
Celebrate art, queer activism, identity, and allyship in our 12th annual LGBTQ+ Teen Night! Created by and for teens, the evening will be full of art-making, performances, and much more. Free; registration is encouraged. Open to all LGBTQ+ teens and their allies ages 14–19.
Art-Making and Breaking the Mold with Creative Practice Teens
Join our Teen Staff for an afternoon of all-ages art-making centering the new exhibition Breaking the Mold: Brooklyn Museum at 200! To culminate their yearlong internship, Creative Practice teens have stepped into the shoes of the teaching artists and created engaging art-making activities. As the Teen Staff showcase their art-education skills, enjoy a variety of multimedia projects that encourage reflection, curiosity, and play! Free; registration is encouraged.
