FLEET WEEK: MAY 24-27 @Intrepid Museum

Throughout the weekend, enjoy musical performances and explore a variety of displays, activities, and demos from the military, including the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, Office of Naval Research and many more! The weekend will conclude on Monday, May 27, with the Museum’s annual Memorial Day ceremony.

All activities on the pier are free to the public.

Access Family Program: Adventures Aboard @ Intrepid

Find out why Intrepid was a “city at sea” and learn about the sailors’ many different jobs aboard the ship! Visit spaces where sailors ate, slept and worked, and celebrate the important contributions of Intrepid’s crew.

Check-in begins at 10:30am. Please arrive before 11:00am in order to participate in the full program.

Looking for a program for older visitors? This program will be offered again from 2:00 to 4:00pm for teens and adults with developmental disabilities and their families. Register for the teen and adult program here.

Coding together MINI-HACKATHON @ Intrepid Museum

Have you ever wanted to be a coder but did not know where to start? Or you know the code but want to improve or focus your efforts. Teens and youth in grades 6-12 with any and all coding experience are invited to learn, program and develop projects at the Intrepid Museum’s first-ever Hackathon! Meet fellow future coders and work together to solve challenges using different coding languages. Sign up in groups, or come explore on your own. No experience is required to join!

Astro Live @ Intrepid

In October 2023, NASA’s Psyche Mission is slated to launch toward a unique asteroid that may hold the secrets of Earth’s own formation. Part of NASA’s Discovery Program focused on planetary science, the Psyche spacecraft will take its six-year journey to the asteroid belt via solar-electric propulsion following a Mars flyby and gravity-assist.

Sailing On and Underwater @ The Intrepid

Submarines and aircraft carriers are very different! Explore the aircraft carrier Intrepid, the A View from the Deep exhibit and the submarine Growler to learn more about the adventures sailing on and underwater!

The Intrepid Museum offers Early Morning Openings for children with autism and their families before the Museum opens to the public! Families receive a sensory bag with interactive activities designed for the whole family, and explore the Museum without the crowds! Participants receive a social narrative ahead of time.

The Intrepid Museum offers programs for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families on select Sundays during regular Museum hours. Families take a guided, interactive tour of the Museum and can participate in activities that everyone can enjoy.

Behind the Scenes: Inside Intrepid’s Island @ The Intrepid Museum

Viewers will get an up-close look at real chart tables, radar consoles and communications equipment. Then, "take the helm" on the navigation bridge and learn how crew members navigated the oceans in any weather, day or night.

This live one-hour virtual experience will give you an in-depth tour of the island, the tower that rises from the flight deck and served as Intrepid’s command center. We will visit the admiral’s bridge, where an admiral commanded multiple ships.

Intrepid Museum's Astro Live @ The Intrepid Museum

Robotics are essential to space operations and some of the most well-known are the robotic arms that have offered a helping “hand” to missions onboard Space Shuttles and the International Space Station (ISS). Today, the ISS has a number of robotic elements, including Canadarm2 and the European Robotic Arm. These structures perform station maintenance, move supplies and equipment, and perform “cosmic catches” of unmanned resupply vehicles, helping to safely dock them to the orbiting station.

Military/Veteran Access to Intrepid Museum Family Day - Astronauts Aboard! @ The Intrepid Museum

Learn all about space exploration by viewing the space shuttle orbiter Enterprise and the Museum’s artifacts. Featuring a special theatrical performance and hands-on STEAM activities all about an astronaut’s journey into space. Current and former service members and their families are invited to explore the Museum on their own.
